In April 2014 the Norwegian Institute of Public Health reported that nineteen of the reported cases of hepatitis A are infected with the same variant of the virus. Several of the patients related to the outbreak have eaten cake with berries that was imported from Germany.
The cake is now withdrawn from the market. The public are advised to boil imported frozen berries for a minute before use until advised differently.
The outbreak in Norway is most probably related to an outbreak that has been going on in several European countries since January 2013. The patients are adults from different parts of the country, mostly south-east region.
