This year has seen some staff changes in the EpiNorth project management. Dr Bjørn Iversen, who recently became the Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), has taken over from Preben Aavitsland as project manager for the EpiNorth project. Dr. Hans Blystad, the Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the NIPH, has become a new associate editor from Norway replacing Preben Aavitsland. The EpiNorth project has developed considerably under Preben Aavitsland’s leadership: the network has developed to the current well-functioning partnership involving institutions of infectious disease control in 12 countries, including the EpiNorth Journal and the website. The EpiNorth office is very grateful to Preben Aavitsland for his efforts and wishes him all the best in his new position as Deputy Director of the Division of Infectious Disease Control at NIPH.
In addition, our long-time partner Eurosurveillance has got a new Editor-in-Chief. As of April 1, 2011, Dr Ines Steffens has taken over as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. She has been the Managing Editor of Eurosurveillance since the transfer of the journal to ECDC in 2007, leading the everyday job of the Editorial Office. She has good public health and communicable disease epidemiology knowledge and experience, and together with the previous Editor-in-Chief Prof Karl Ekdahl she has built up a strong journal. Eurosurveillance is well recognised in the world of communicable disease epidemiology as a high quality journal paying special attention to the control of communicable diseases in Europe. It was founded in 1995 and is the European scientific journal of the surveillance, epidemiology, prevention and control of communicable diseases. The journal is indexed and abstracted in the Science Citation Index Expanded and the Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition.
The EpiNorth Journal, a long-time partner of Eurosurveillance, its Editorial Team and Editorial Board would like to pay their gratitude to Prof Karl Ekdahl, Eurosurveillance Editor-in-Chief for four years, for the great work done by him on the development of the journal, and wish him success in his new responsibility at ECDC to build up the new Public Health Capacity and Communication Unit.
